Merican Stock Exchange 24”x48” Acrylic on Canvas

As a testament to how uncomfortable, yet necessary change can be, this painting was made for the first time using the non-dominant hand (left hand) entirely for the first time. Confronts the contradictions of American capitalism. A homeless man huddles under a blanket with instant soups at his feet, while across the street the Exchange looms in horror-red and transparent green. Behind it rises a forest of dead trees, fading yellow in the distance and black in the foreground a metaphor for institutions demanding we water what can no longer bear fruit. The work asks what survives when ambition overshadows human need.
