About

Frank Diaz Cabrera

Multidiscipline Artist exploring resilience, culture, and memory.

I am Frank Diaz Cabrera, founder and creator of Yocox Studio (pronounced Yo-cosh), a Cuban-born visual artist whose work is rooted in peace, compassion, and shared humanity. Growing up amid poverty and repression shaped my understanding of art as both resistance and hope.

My creative journey began after leaving military service in the United States Army and finding freedom in painting and photography during my time in New York City, traveling through 25 countries, and ending in Mexico City. The name Yocox, drawn from the native Mexican Náhuatl language, speaks to invention, kindness, and peace. A guiding spirit for my practice.

Through photojournalism and travel across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, I have witnessed the universality of human experience. Despite differences of culture and language, I see that family, the longing for peace, and the pursuit of happiness connect us all. My Vipassana meditation practice deepens this vision, inspiring me to foster compassion and liberation from suffering through art.

Photography captures the immediacy of life, while painting allows me to transform those moments into something abstract and personal. My work often holds tension between harmony and discord, beauty and struggle as a way of revealing the fullness of peace.

My hope is that the name Yocox and my art communicate a simple truth: peace is both a goal and a path. Whether through serene imagery or confronting its absence, I aim to invite empathy, connection, and a reminder of our shared humanity.
